Optical Metal Wire Diameter (or Inner Diameter) Measurement InstrumentOptical Metal Wire Diameter (or Inner Diameter) Measurement Instrument

specification:
~Measurement of wire diameter
The change to the measurement of wire diameter is very simple.
A special wire holder can be mounted easily in the universal specimen holder of the DM 1.
An additional software procedure is specialized to the wire measurement. The wire is displayed on the computer screen as live image. So the wire can be optical inspected and the diameter is measured with highest accuracy

~The measurement is performed optically with image processing. The image of the measuring optics is transferred by a USB camera to the PC. The live image of the camera is shown on the PC monitor and evaluated by highly accurate image processing algorithms.

DESCRIPTION

The DM 1 is equipped with 2 measuring optics, which are mounted together on the motorized focusing stage (z-stage). A software controlled autofocus procedure finds the smallest diameter of the drawing die cylinder. This ensures highest measuring accuracy and reproducibility.~The DM 1 serves for the automatic, software controlled measurement of the inside diameter of the cylinder of drawing dies and for the highly accurate measurement of the outside wire diameter. Additionally the roundness and the area of the die bore are measured.

~ DM1 - Microscope for Measurement of Wire Die Inner Diameter and Metal Wire Diameter High-precision instrument for measuring wire die diameter, roundness, and cross-sectional area DM1 is a software-controlled, fully automatic, high-precision measurement instrument with the following main features:

Wire die inner diameter measurement
Wire die inner diameter roundness measurement
Wire die inner diameter circular area measurement
Metal wire diameter measurement*

*Requires additional mechanical components and software functionality.

Measurement Structure The metal wire is clamped in a universal sample holder. The measurement of DM1 is based on optical measurement principles and is completed through image processing. The image magnified by the measuring microscope is transmitted to the computer via a USB camera and image processing system, and evaluated as a real-time image displayed on the screen.

DM1 comes with two measuring microscopes, fixed on the Z-axis and controlled by a motor for movement. For each measurement, users can freely select the range of movement on the Z-axis to quickly locate the image. By choosing an appropriate step length, more accurate diameter values can be obtained.

The minimum detected diameter is output as the measurement value for the wire die diameter. The entire measurement process is software-controlled and fully automatic, minimizing human interference and improving measurement accuracy and repeatability.

Measurement Process The wire die is placed in the sample holder and adjusted using the XY table to approximately center it under the microscope. Then, an appropriate magnification is selected, and the microscope is moved to the focal plane to find a visually clear image of the wire die hole (manual preliminary focusing). Clicking "Start" initiates the system to automatically perform precise autofocus and start the measurement process.

Of course, for wire dies with different aperture specifications or multiple measurements of the same aperture wire die, users can create a list and save corresponding focal positions for convenient subsequent measurements.

Finally, based on specific image rules, the software searches for the minimum diameter of the wire die as the measurement diameter, which is displayed on the screen. Users can choose to save the measurement or restart if needed.

Metal Wire Diameter Measurement A special fixture for metal wire can be installed on the universal sample holder. By utilizing additional software modules, precise wire diameter measurements can be performed.
